Rick Sudsberry
Work with Couples Rick has been working with married couples since 1972. As a husband, father and grandfather, Rick has a real passion for relationships. His focus in marital therapy is brief, professional care that supports couples repairing their own relationsip while effecting healthy changes in their lives. An average, treatment for couples takes between ten and twelve sessions.

Rick believes in building the marital bond and in establishing healthy relationships that will last a lifetime. His main focus is teaching couples to problem solve and then to assist them in finding their own solutions. It is important for couples to understand gender differences and how they effect feelings of closeness. Communication is different for men and women. By recognizing these differences in their spouse, a couple can break through barriers and learn to resolve conflicts between them.
Work With Children and Parents Rick's private practice is focused on an attachment treatment approach for children and parents, as well as couples. Rick is a Registered Clinican with the Association for Treatment and Training in the attachment of Children (ARRACh).
What is Bonding and Attachment Therapy? Bonding refers to the healthy connection parents make with their children. Attachment refers to healthy, trusting relationships children experience with their parents. Parents lead and children follow in the natural order of parent/child relationships. Sometimes bonding and attachment disruptions or breaks can occur for a number of reasons. They can be obvious or subtle. Issues that disturb attachment may include:

Extra Information on Rick Sudsberry Rick Sudsberry has been counseling since 1970 and also gives seminars for schools, churches and other organizations. Rick's credentials are as follows: Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT): A clinical member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and licensed by the state of Indiana. Rick has provided marriage counseling to thousands of couples since 1972. Mr. Sudsberry’s approach includes helping couples develop communication skills, reduce conflict, embrace problem solving, and improve overall couple closeness. His strength based approach helps couples learn to create their own repairs in the relationship, and enhance their relationship connection. Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC): Rick was trained in clinical psychology at the University of Illinois at Springfield. He is licensed in the state of Indiana as a mental health counselor. He has provided therapy for thousands of adults and teenagers with depression, general anxiety, phobias (airplanes, cars, phobias of open spaces, elevators, needles, etc), and helped teens and adults learn to manage difficult aspects of their own personalities. Association for Treatment and Training in the Attachment of Children (ATTACh): Since 1997 Rick has received training and consultation with the Theraplay Institute in Chicago. He is also a registered clinician with the International group, ATTCh. Having provided treatment for children and adolescents since the early 1970’s, Rick has seen success in treating children soar since adopting an attachment-based approach to care. Helping parents lead children so they will follow and helping children desire parent’s approval has significantly increased outcome healthiness in families. Diplomat of the American Board of Forensic Counselors (DABFC): A forensic counselor deals with legal aspects of issues as they relate to counseling. Examples could include: court testimony, working with parents and children in legal dispute to coordinate their ability to relate together about their children, supervised visitation of an estranged parent for the court, and making custody recommendations after evaluation of caregivers for a child. Mr. Sudsberry has been involved with each of these situations and has been used as an expert witness regarding child attachment and making recommendations about caregivers and their relationship to the child. American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC): Rick is a charter member of AACC. He believes in understanding all aspects of who a person is and the beliefs and philosophies that effect a person’s life. Christian counseling provided by Rick Sudsberry helps hurting people move toward interpersonal confidence, emotional well-being, and spiritual maturity. Rick Sudsberry’s practice is the oldest continually operating Christian Counseling practice in the metropolitan Indianapolis area (since January 1984). Certified Sports Counselor (CSC): Rick has a background in athletics. He holds a national coaching license from the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) and a D, E, F license from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF). He coached soccer a total of 16 years at the club and high school level. Rick has counseled children & adolescents, as well as college athletes in the areas of performance, anxiety, performance enhancement, mental toughness training, motivation and underachievement, as well as perfectionistic anxiety, and it’s links to addictive behavior.
